TRAVEL INDUSTRY R£WARDS REVIEW
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has co-operated with The Reward Group to produce their first annual survey of pay and benefits for the travel sector. The full report will be available from December 14, 1999. This research will enable the travel industry to compare itself to other industry groups, since the Reward Group has a database of 4,000 organisations in all industry and public sectors.
Comparing the results of this survey with pay levels from the database, pay levels in the travel sector are up to 22 per cent lower than the national average although senior management/specialists receive up to 10 per cent above the average. It appears that employees with extra responsibility are being recognised and rewarded accordingly.
Pay rises in the last 12 months averaged 3.5 per cent in the travel industry, slightly above the national average of 3.3 per cent. Looking ahead, most of the participants will be conducting their next pay reviews in January and April 2000 and, exactly in line with Rewards national picture, this will average 3.3 per cent.
The full report includes some Comparisons by Location, Bonus and Commission Payments, Specialisations, and Benefits such as Pensions, Private Health Insurance, Life Assurance, Hours/Holidays and Paternity Leave.
The full survey "Travel Industry R£wards" will be available to participants at a cost of £100, ABTA Members and Travel Industry Partners for £200 and at £300 for all others. Contact: Diane Bielby at The Reward Group on 01785-813566
ABTA President, Steven Freudmann, said: "This survey will be of benefit both to our Members and to us at ABTA. It will give Members access to independent data to help benchmark pay and benefit arrangements, compared to their competitors. For ABTA, it will provide authoritative data that we can use in discussions with the Government and others on pay and employment issues."
