The Police have great difficulty in returning to victims of crime their property that has been seized by Police Officers as suspected of being stolen. In some cases this actually means giving back to the suspect large amounts of property because the police can not prove who the owner is.

Not only does this mean that your property is lost to you but the suspect is not brought to justice for the distress caused to you. The final indignation is that your insurance premium may be increased. Please use this form, which has been compiled in conjunction with the Yorkshire Police, to list all your articles and then keep it in a safe place for reference so if the worst happens they have some chance of identifying it in the future. If you can afford a security marker pen, please put your postcode on all items. (If you can't afford a pen, contact your local community constable or neighbourhood watch scheme who may be able to help).

JEWELLERY AND PERSONAL ITEMS

REMEMBER: If you keep all of your jewellery in a box then the thief will take it all. He will throw away those things he cannot immediately sell. In many cases those pieces of jewellery which are of the greatest sentimental value will end up in a hedge bottom as worthless to a thief. If you don't wear it DO NOT keep it with the pieces you use. Lock them away. You cannot replace a lifetime of memories with an insurance claim.

ALSO: When did you last have your items of jewellery Revalued? If a diamond ring is 25 to 30 years old then it is probably valued about ten times what you paid for it! What is the maximum insurance value per item on your policy.
