SAFETY AND SECURITY
Visitors should exercise caution when swimming off shore, as there are dangerous currents. It is particularly dangerous to swim in the sea beyond the reef. Wear a life jacket whenever using water sports equipment.
LOCAL TRAVEL
Visitors should not swim in the lagoon in South Tarawa, which is highly polluted.
HEALTH
There are isolated incidents of typhoid in Kiribati. Visitors should seek medical advice before travelling.
Tap water is untreated and it is recommended that visitors drink bottled water only.
